Our Story | Homevets Realty — A Brokerage Built by a Veteran, for a Military Community
Our Story

Take back your time.
Take back your future.

The story of Homevets Realty — and why Jose Segarra, after serving his country and building 32+ years and 5,000+ closings in Central Texas real estate, is opening the doors to the next generation of soldiers, spouses, and veterans who want the same thing he did: control of their own lives.

Chapter I

Our Story begins behind the door.

Years on active duty in the U.S. Army. That's what Jose Segarra gave this country before he took off the uniform and stepped into the civilian world — and ran straight into the same wall every transitioning soldier eventually hits.

There wasn't a career waiting that actually fit the life he wanted to live.

Jobs with someone else's schedule. Ceilings on what he could earn. Bosses who had never worn the uniform, deciding what his time was worth. After giving everything to the Army, the civilian economy's answer was: get in line, keep your head down, and we'll tell you when you've earned more.

Jose didn't want more of the same. He wanted control. Over his hours. Over his ceiling. Over the future he and his family were building.

In 1994, he earned his Texas real estate license. Not because he dreamed of being a Realtor — but because real estate was the one career he could find where the harder he worked, the more he earned, and nobody got to cap that but him. It was, in his words, a tool. One of the best ones. A way to build the life he actually wanted on the other side of the uniform.

In 2005, he opened Homevets Realty — first to help military families in the Greater Fort Hood area buy and sell homes with someone who actually understood what a PCS order looks like. 32+ years and more than 5,000 closings later, the mission has only grown.

Today, Jose's goal is simpler and bigger at the same time: show active duty soldiers, veterans, and military spouses how to use real estate the same way he did — as the tool that lets them take back control of their own time, their own income, and their own future after giving so much to this country.

You don't have to wait until ETS to start. You don't have to figure it out alone. And you definitely don't have to settle for a career built around someone else's priorities.

A Community Worth Serving

He didn't just watch Killeen grow. He helped it.

When Jose started in real estate, Killeen was a city of roughly 60,000 people. Today it's pushing 160,000 — nearly triple the size — and the engine behind that growth has always been the same: the soldiers and military families of Fort Hood and the Central Texas region.

What Jose understood early is that a great military community doesn't just serve the veterans themselves. It takes care of their immediate families — the spouses and children who hold everything together — and those families, when they feel at home, bring extended families to put down roots here too. Parents, siblings, in-laws. One soldier becomes a whole household, and a whole household becomes part of the fabric of the region.

That ripple is what built modern Killeen and the Greater Fort Hood corridor. And for 32+ years, real estate has let Jose be part of it — not as a bystander, but as the person handing families the keys to where their next chapter begins.

He's proud of that. Proud of the community Central Texas has become, and proud that real estate gave him a way to serve the families who serve our country — one closing, one home, one neighbor at a time.

A Brief History

Our Story: from active duty to active control.

Service

Years of service. One hard transition.

After serving on active duty in the U.S. Army, Jose Segarra steps into the civilian workforce — and runs into the same frustration every transitioning soldier eventually hits. The jobs available don't fit the life he wants to build.

1994

The license that changed everything.

Jose earns his Texas real estate license. Not as a career plan — but as the tool that finally gives him control over his own schedule, his own ceiling, and his own future. Killeen, at the time, is a city of roughly 60,000.

2005

Homevets Realty opens its doors.

Jose founds Homevets Realty in Killeen to serve military families buying and selling homes in the Greater Fort Hood area — led by a broker who actually knows what PCS, ETS, and deployment mean without having to ask.

Civic Life

Service beyond the brokerage.

Three-term Mayor of Killeen. Chairman of the Workforce Board of Central Texas. Boardrooms across the Greater Fort Hood area — every one of them focused on the military community Jose still serves.

Today

A bigger mission — for the ranks, not just the clients.

32+ years and 5,000+ closings later, Killeen has nearly tripled to almost 160,000 — and Jose is opening the doors to active duty soldiers, veterans, and spouses who want to do what he did: use real estate as the tool that puts them in control of their own lives, on their own terms.

"

Real estate isn't the dream. It's the tool that lets you build the dream — while serving the families who serve our country, in a community that grew because they chose to call it home.

How We Operate

Four things that put you in the driver's seat.

i.

You set the ceiling.

No boss deciding what your time is worth. No cap on what you can earn. The harder you work, the more you make — and nobody gets to vote on that but you.

ii.

Your schedule, not theirs.

Duty, deployment, field time, PCS, kids, spouse life, terminal leave — none of these are obstacles. They're the reality the whole career is built around.

iii.

Trained by someone who lived it.

A U.S. Army veteran. 32+ years in Texas real estate. 5,000+ transactions. Jose personally knows the transition — because he made it — and he trains every agent who walks through the door.

iv.

A tool for the rest of your life.

Real estate is a career that can outlast any deployment, any PCS, any retirement. Build it now and it's still there ten, twenty, thirty years from now — working for you, not the other way around.

Meet The Broker

The man who lived the transition — and built the answer.

Jose Segarra served on active duty in the U.S. Army before transitioning to civilian life and earning his Texas real estate license in 1994. More than three decades later, he's closed over 5,000 transactions and built Homevets Realty into one of the most trusted brokerages in the Greater Fort Hood area.

He's watched Killeen grow from a city of roughly 60,000 to nearly 160,000 — and he's proud to have been part of that growth, handing keys to the military families whose service built this community and whose extended families chose to put down roots here too.

He's also a three-term former Mayor of Killeen and Chairman of the Workforce Board of Central Texas — a role that puts him at the intersection of every transition story Fort Hood produces. He knows, as well as anyone in Texas, how hard the leap from uniform to civilian career actually is. He made it himself.

That's why Homevets Realty isn't just a brokerage. It's the answer Jose wishes had been waiting for him after his service — now being extended to the next generation of soldiers, spouses, and veterans ready to take control of their own future.
