A U.S. Army veteran. 32+ years in Texas real estate. More than 5,000 closings, three terms as Mayor of Killeen, and one mission: to help the people who serve this country build a career — and a life — on their own terms.
About the broker behind Homevets Realty: Jose Segarra served on active duty in the U.S. Army before transitioning to civilian life. Like every soldier who has ever taken off the uniform, he stepped into the civilian workforce and ran straight into the same wall every transitioning service member eventually hits: the jobs available didn’t fit the life he was trying to build.
Jobs with someone else’s schedule. Ceilings on what he could earn. Bosses who had never worn the uniform deciding what his time was worth. After giving so much to the Army, the civilian economy’s answer was: get in line, keep your head down, and we’ll tell you when you’ve earned more.
Jose decided he wanted something different. Control over his time. Control over his ceiling. Control over the future he was building for his family. In 1994, he earned his Texas real estate license — not because he dreamed of being a Realtor, but because real estate was the one career he could find where the harder he worked, the more he earned, and nobody got to cap that but him.
For more than a decade, Jose built his book of business one client and one closing at a time, becoming a fixture of the Greater Fort Hood real estate community. In 2005, he opened the doors of Homevets Realty — first to serve the military families he understood best, and then to build a brokerage where soldiers, spouses, and veterans had a real seat at the table. The firm is now 20 years strong.
Today, Homevets Realty has closed more than 5,000 transactions across Central Texas, and Jose still personally onboards every agent who joins the firm. The reason is simple: about the broker who built it — he knows what it’s like to make the leap, and he believes the next generation of agents deserves the kind of mentorship the brokerage he needed never offered him.
Jose has served Killeen and the Greater Fort Hood community for nearly as long as he’s been a broker. He served five full terms as a Killeen City Councilman and three full terms as Mayor of Killeen — a role that put him at the center of the community’s civic and economic life. He is also a certified Mindset Coach, bringing the same transformational approach to his agents that he brings to his clients.
Few people in Texas understand the move from uniform to civilian career better than Jose. He made it himself. He’s helped thousands of military families navigate it through Homevets Realty. And through decades of board and civic leadership, he’s helped shape the regional infrastructure that supports it. That’s why Homevets Realty isn’t just a brokerage — it’s the answer Jose wishes had been waiting for him, now extended to the next generation of soldiers, spouses, veterans, and civilians who love serving military families and are ready to build the life they actually want.
